NEW DELHI: There are just far too many Android phones in the world and which is why they dominate the market. More than 80% of the phones in the world are Android-based smartphones that are made by many big names like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Google, and the list goes on and on. However, amongst the plethora of devices, have you ever wondered which may be the best-selling Android phone in the world? A report by research firm Omdia has revealed that the most popular Android phone in the world is none other than one made by Samsung. Yes, it’s the entry-level Galaxy 10, which is the best-selling Android phone in the world.
The report states that Samsung shipped over 30 million Galaxy A10 units all over the world in 2019. The Galaxy A30 is also the third most-popular smartphone in the world. The first two spots were secured by iPhone XR and iPhone 11 as Apple shipped 46.1 million and 37.3 million units respectively.
Samsung, meanwhile, has three more phones in the top 10 list released by Omdia. These are the Galaxy A50, Galaxy A20 and the Galaxy J2 Core. None of the premium smartphones like the Galaxy S series — S10, S10+ and S10e — of 2019 or previous generation made the cut. Apple’s iPhone 8, however, was the 7th best-selling smartphone in the world.
Going by the list of phones released by Omdia, it’s clear that the Galaxy A-series of smartphones has clearly worked for the South Korean tech giant. What helped Samsung perhaps is that the A-series is available across segments — from entry-level and budget to mid-range — and offer good enough value proposition to have sold millions of devices in the world. Interestingly, the only non-Samsung and non-Apple device in the top 10 list of phones is Xiaomi’s entry-level handset, the Redmi Note 7.
